Family Recipes
Every pie is a gift from my grandma, passed down to my aunt and mom and then to me. The pies are made from traditional recipes using "old fashioned" ingredients. When my grandma was in her early 80s I asked her for her cinnamon roll recipe and as she recited, I wrote. These family favourites were part of my childhood where the smell of cinnamon baking takes me back to Grandma's kitchen.

What is it about Americans and Pie?
Pie is a cultural icon in the USA. Every family will have a pie story or a pie opinion. Whether it's fruit pies versus cream pies, pumpkin pie versus sweet potato pie or Crisco versus butter, there's always a story.
In my family the debate was around who got to have their favourite homemade dessert pies during special occasions. In a family of four kids (plus two extra votes from mom and dad), this was a big decision. The eldest cast her vote for cherry pie or peach cobbler. The next in line was pumpkin or pumpkin chiffon, then came the third who must have took her cue from the eldest - cherry or peach. Then came me and it's no wonder cherry won out (it is a really good pie), but then to mark my own path, I also loved French Silk.
This could possibly be an influence from my mom whose favourites are butterscotch (a very old fashioned pie) and chocolate silk. My dad favoured lemon meringue. My mom and I were definitely influenced by my grandma.
My grandma made a prize winning chocolate pie that was so good it created a wedding since my grandpa, after his first bite of her pie at the church lunch announced "whoever made this pie, I'm gonna marry that woman".
